Student financing

An important topic for many is student financing, for which we would also like to provide a few tips here:

  • The classic way - Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) most international student are not eligable
BAföG was introduced in the 1970s to enable every prospective student, regardless of their background, to study according to their abilities and inclinations. The amount of state funding depends on personal and family circumstances, such as the number of siblings and family income. Basically, the BAföG motto is “half and half” - half is paid out as a grant and half as an interest-free state loan. The Studentenwerk Frankfurt am Main (MainSWerk) offers initial BAföG advice.
  • The alternative - education loan
As not all students are eligible for BAföG, the alternative is an educational loan program. Regardless of your own income and assets or those of your parents or spouse, a temporary education loan is made available with fixed repayment terms.
  • Für vielversprechende Nachwuchsstudenten - Scholarships
In addition to BAföG and self-financing, there is also the option of applying for a scholarship. There are numerous regional and national foundations that award scholarships to students and, as a rule, these scholarships do not have to be repaid.
  • Deutschlandstipendium
Since 2011, the Deutschlandstipendium has been supporting committed students from all disciplines whose careers promise outstanding achievements. In addition to very good performance, social commitment, a willingness to take responsibility and overcoming obstacles are also taken into account. The scholarship holders receive 300 euros per month, half of which is financed by the federal government and half by private donors. This combination of civic engagement and state funding makes the Deutschlandstipendium special.
  • The new extra for Frankfurters -MainCampus-academicus
Frankfurt has its own scholarship. The “MainCampus academicus” scholarship from the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Foundation was set up for students with outstanding qualifications in a scientific or technical Master's degree course. It is not possible to apply yourself, as promising candidates are nominated by their department. In addition to financial support, the “MainCampus academicus” offers an accompanying program that supports the scholarship holders in their individual career planning. The maximum funding period is two years.
