Projekt C04 im SFB "Negation in language and beyond" (NegLaB)
Studien zeigen, dass Kinder und Erwachsene Schwierigkeiten bei der Verarbeitung negierter Sätze im Vergleich zu affirmativen Sätzen aufweisen. Das Projekt untersucht, inwieweit nicht-sprachliche kognitive Fähigkeiten – Exekutive Funktionen und Theory of Mind – mit einer zielsprachlichen Verarbeitung von Negation in Verbindung stehen und inwiefern ein plausibler Kontext die Verarbeitung erleichtert. Im Mittelpunkt des Vorhabens stehen Kinder im Vorschulalter, deren kognitive Fähigkeiten noch in der Entwicklung sind. Mögliche Zusammenhänge wurden für Vorschulkinder bislang nur wenig erforscht. Erwartet wird, dass gut entwickelte kognitive Fähigkeiten mit einer erfolgreichen Negationsverarbeitung einhergehen und dass ein plausibler Kontext die Verarbeitung erleichtert.
Project C04 in the CRC "Negation in language and beyond" (NegLaB)
Studies show that children and adults have difficulties when processing negative sentences compared to affirmative sentences. The project investigates to what extent non-verbal cognitive abilities - executive functions and the theory of mind - are related to the processing of negation in the target language and to what extent a plausible context facilitates the processing. The focus of the project is on preschool children whose cognitive abilities are still developing. To date, there is little research on these connections with regard to preschoolers. We expect that well-developed cognitive abilities are associated with successful negation processing and that a plausible context facilitates processing.
