Pre-College Program in Natural Sciences

The student program for exceptionally gifted individuals in the natural sciences aims to foster students with pronounced aptitude in the natural sciences or high-achieving students with a strong interest in the natural sciences, as demonstrated by participation in school competitions, beyond the standard school curriculum.

Participants are mentored by a professor who will select a suitable course during a preliminary discussion with you, ensuring it aligns with your prior knowledge and fits into your school schedule. In accordance with Section 54 (5) of the Hessian Higher Education Act, regular attendance and passing the exam allow for the acquisition of exam credits, which can be applied to a future degree program upon special application. The weekly time commitment should not exceed 5–6 hours.

If you would like to attend a few lectures to get a feel for the program and determine whether your intended field of study is the right choice, we recommend our "Trial Days" program:

Please note:
To participate in a degree program that includes laboratory-based courses, you must be at least 16 years old at the start of the student program due to legal regulations. Applications from younger students will therefore not be considered.

For natural sciences programs that do not involve laboratory work, it is advisable to have at least mastered the school curriculum from the completed e-phase of upper secondary education as prior knowledge.

The Faculty of Medicine does not participate in this program with its two degree programs, Human Medicine and Dentistry, due to capacity constraints.

The following laboratory-based degree programs are available:

  • Biochemistry
  • Bioinformatics
  • Biophysics
  • Biosciences (school subject Biology)
  • Chemistry
  • Geography (Physical Geography)
  • Earth Sciences
