Experience Biological Diversity at Opel Zoo

The term biological diversity (“biodiversity”) refers to the diversity of life on Earth. Of the 10 to 50 million different animal and plant species on our planet, we are currently only aware of a fraction. This fascinating diversity is nothing less than the basis of human life and is indispensable for the preservation of our ecosystems. But it is precisely this diversity that is under serious threat! Numerous endangered species are bred at Opel Zoo and some are released back into the wild. During the action days at Opel Zoo, biodiversity can be experienced up close at numerous stations. What lives in the leaves? How do bats find their way around? What would we be without bees? Numerous exhibits allow schoolchildren and other zoo visitors to conduct their own “research,” explore these questions in a playful and experimental way, and talk to real researchers. This creates an understanding of biodiversity and the need to actively protect it.
