Support for choosing your Program

Find the degree program that’s right for you – with helpful tips, tools, and guidance to support you in choosing your path.

Choosing a course at university is an important decision—and often not an easy one. There’s no shortage of information online, but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume. What matters most is not reading as much as possible, but finding the information that truly fits you. Goethe University is here to support you with resources to help you get oriented, personalized guidance, and tips on how to gain clarity step by step.

Getting Started: Discovering Yourself Better

At the beginning of every study choice, it’s not about universities or degree programs—it’s about you. Ask yourself: What truly interests me? What strengths do I bring to the table? What values and goals are significant to me? And during which activities do I feel like time just flies by?

These reflections form the foundation for everything that follows.

To help you explore these questions more intentionally, Goethe University offers the online tool “Your Choice – Fine-Tuning Your Study Decision.” It supports you in examining your interests, strengths, and personal preferences, exploring suitable fields of study, and gaining initial insights for your decision.

The Central Student Advice and Counseling Office (ZSB) offers one-on-one consultations to address all your questions about choosing a course of study, the application process, or changing your subject. Additionally, the Agency for Employment, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and the Chamber of Crafts provide advice on study alternatives or professional training opportunities.

If you’re already considering professional training instead, Goethe University also offers training in various professions. Here, you’ll find an overview of the available training programs.
